SSUE.EXE FAQ

  • When I run SSUE.EXE it asks me for a Username and Password. Why?[2002.11.07]
This happens when you install Visual Source Safe on your local computer and move the database manually to another computer (most likely a server). When you do this, you need to change your SRCSAFE.INI file to point to the remote database. Instructions for doing this are found in an article titled HOWTO: Move a VSS Database or Project to New Location on Microsoft's support site. This is article #Q176909. See instructions for Senario 3. However, Scenario 1 is the preferred method of moving a database to another computer and SSUE works just fine in that configuration.

  • I am having problems getting SSUE to work, what should I do?[2002.11.06]
Send me an e-mail! I try to respond as soon as I receive mail. Here is what you can do to make sure I can assist you the most.
    • Make sure you are running the latest version. (When I change the program I change it for good. I can't tweak and old version.)
    • Run the program with the -LOG parameter to generate the XML logfile.
    • Attach or paste the logfile into the e-mail you send me.
    • Paste the program output into the e-mail you send me.
    • Of course, explain the problem a little. Things like strange directory security you are forced to use, or weird locations of physical file (like on flash ram or removable storage).
